A/C and engine light illumination
Does anyone have any experiance with this one? My A/C wasn't cooling like it should, so I picked up a refresh kit and charged it. It was low cause I had to jumper it to get the compresor to stay on. I got it all charged up, A/C is now blowing cold. The problem is every time I turnthe A/Con the check engine light comes on a the truck runs very poorly. It lacks power, stalls, and runs rough. If you turn the A/C off it runs fine. I took it to Auto Zone and they scanned it and said it was a TP sensor. I bought one, changed it, and it still does it. I swapped the A/C relay with another just for trouble shooting. If I disconnect/reconnect the battery, the light goes away and it works as advertised, untill I turn the A/C on and then it starts all over. My next resort is the dealer, any help would be appreciated. I have a 2000, Ram 1500, Quad Cab, 4X4, 360, auto.
I would lean toward a IAC problem. Just because a code says XXX does not mean replace that part. It means that's where you START looking. Can you get a reading on the RPMs when it does this? If the RPMs drop when the a/c comes on, that's an indication that the PCM isn't increasing the idle to compensate for the load.

It doesn't do it at any specific RPM range or speed. If the light doesn't come on within seconds of turning the A/C on it does the second I put it in gear. It usally stalls leaving my drive or at the first stop sign. It then doesn't seems like it has a lot of power getting to speed, but that comes and goes. Then when you get it up to55 or so it starts to hesitate and act like it is going to stall. At one point it died, RPMs dropped and I stood on the gas with no response.I let up off the gas and it just idled and then I gave it some gas and it took off normaly. The really strange part is, as soon as you turn the A/C off it runs normal. I am a bit perplexed.
