How would I go about either changing out my heater core, or bypassing it. whichever is less expensive. being as I don't have much money. If someone could give me a step by step, and or pictures? that would be greatly appreciated. i have a 2000 dodge ram 1500 v6 2wd

Disconnect the line that runs from the water pump to the heater core, from the heater core. Disconnect the line that runs from the heater core to the intake, from the intake. Put that one to the side, perhaps using zip ties to keep it out of the way. Now, connect the first line that ran to the heater core to the intake, where you disconnected the second line. Be quick, so as not to lose too much coolant and create an air pocket.

Problem solved.

All you need is 3/4" heater hose. If you look at the front of your engine (I have a 5.2L so it may be different) there should be a hose coming out of each side of the engine. Disconnect both, then just connect the new hose between them so the antifreeze stays into the engine and does not go to the heater core. The same exact thing just happened to my 99 1500 a few weeks ago and thats what I did to fix it for now.

Did you have antifreeze leaking into your cab?

It's easy man, just have faith in yourelf. All you need to do it is a pipe wrench that changes sizes, don't know how else to explain it. Once you see the clamps you need to move, you will know what i mean. All you are doing to bypass the heater is making the coolant run through the engin instead on to the heater core. The hoses (two of them) are to the left of the air intake box, i have a volant cold air intake so i can see the hoses real easy your stock box might be different. You can miss them, they run into the cab of the truck, two hoses same size right and left of each other. One hose (on the left)runs from thecab to just behind the alternator into the manifold. The other (on the right) runs to the water pump.

All you do is take the one on theleft side off where it runs (meets the male end) into the cab, you'll need to plug it with your thumb, or finger or you'll **** out coolant. Go the the hose on the right side of the cab, follow it to the water pump, remove it from the water pump (Not at the cab), let this coolant fall into a bucket. Connect the hose that has your finger in it, to the water pump where you just took off the hose. Done.. bypassed. If you really need i'll post some pics but it is soo easy man, just print thispost out and go look at the truck.
