dead dodge
i have posted before about my truck doing this but it has never done it when i am driving 50 mph
i was a stop light and the truck started sputtering and the tach was going up to 1200 rpms and then back down
to 200 and then it would do that a few times and die then i got going and it started doing it when i got up too speed
and it died and the steering wheel locked... so i put her in neutral and restarted her but it died again
i have had suggestions about the plenum, IAC, MAP, spark plug wires, spark plugs, and cap and rotor
the wires and spark plugs are practically new about 3000 miles or 4000 on them
i dunno about the rotor and cap ,but i do know the plenum is not leaking and
the cat is not clogged because i gutted that and never got it hooked back to the actual
exhaust system so it is LOUD the oil needs changed in about 400 more miles and i have a newer air filter
about 7,000 miles old
any more suggestions guy
they would be very helpful
thanks
and i always use the same gas from the same gas station
also my fuel pump sounds good before i start the truck you canhear the sound ,
where it pumps for about 2 seconds and then it goes off

My car was doing that (not a dodge but it was happening) and it turned out to be the temp sending unit for the computer. Does your truck load up? Are you having a hard time starting it, as well as keeping it running? Thats what was happening to mine. Not sure if that helps or not. But i also agree with DuranguenzeRam, i would check the tps. thats where i had started on my car (mine was fine tho).
well i never had these problems until about a month ago after i went mudding
my dad (owned an autobody repair shop) said it is my cap and rotor i got water in it while
i went through water and mud and this is happening so for 15 dollars
i am gonna replace the cap and the rotor in the distributor... i will post back and let you all know how that goes
thanks for the info
oh and btw i cleaned the TB and the IAC also the MAP sensor
and i also Gutted my CAT i am gonna do an oil change soon

You might want to check the connector plug to your PCM. Often, water(or mud in your case) finds it way into the connection terminals to the computer and causes corrosion and poor connection issues. It been seen here on the forum before, and its one of those issues that will drive you crazy!!!! Make sure you disconnect the battery and discharge all electrical on vehicle BEFORE you pull the connection plugs. Then clean up all the terminals gently--pack with silicone grease and reconnect. If that isn't the problem, at least you've eliminated that one and prohibited a future issue.
yeah i bought some special grease for the terminals
dielectric grease or something like that
and where is this PCM connector located ?
thanks for all input guys

ok i replaced the IAC motor and the truck runs so much better
the cap and rotor helped alot but the IAC made it run better also.
so all in all i think it was a problem with those 3 parts
thanks for thehelp guys
WOOOOOO I LOVE www.dodgeforum.com
well, i took it for a 30 mile test drive after reseting the pcm and it didn't die but i still get the sputtering sound at like 25-45 mph if i give it more gas it goes away if i keep it at a constant speed it does that,
cat has been gutted , muffler has been removed so no restriction at all.
i have changed CAP, ROTOR, IAC,
i have checked gap on the spark plugs, no fouling or carbon, wires are all good, air filter is in good shape, the plenum is not leaking as far as i can tell
i removed the TB and looked for oil pooling ,(FUEL PUMP)i hear the fuel pump prime the truck before i start it. it idles really nice now
the truck is a 2001 dodge ram 1500 QC, 4x4, Auto, 318(5.2L V8) has only 67,600 miles
the only thing that comes to mind is the gasket under the air filter box on the TB it is broken and being held together by Duct Tape.
anymore ideas guys like
fuel regulator,
air intake temp senson.
just anything that would make a truck do this
let me know what you guys think
and if possible a little more info as to what i am looking for on some of these parts. or how to tell if i have to get a new part
thanks again
