Evap canister most likely got gas in it, wetting the charcoal. You can get a replacement at www.rockauto.com or cut it open, clean it out, and replace with bone charcoal (that's used in aquarium filters -- all the same). Then, glue/weld it shut again. I get that same code from time to time, and I know it's my charcoal canister.

Its a generic code for the evap. system indicating a flow problem. Purge solenoid might be faulty since that is what controls the flow from the canister to the throttle body. The PCM controls the solenoid. The solenoid is on the inside right front fender. Check the electrical connection and hoses.

Maybe the 4x4 is different, but on my 1997, the solenoid is on the rear most part of the driver's side valve cover.

That's a start. Hell, it could very well be the gas cap as well.

Sorry, I missed the '97. Or maybe the webmaster messed up my post. If it was just the fuel cap though, that would set a "leak" code, maybe P0442. With a flow code showing, you most likely have a blockage or some other movement related problem.Your problem may come back after a few drive cycles.
