Default Tranny Issues ... Carnage found, part located!

Used my Ram to tow a 6x12 U haul to Tulsa from Phoenix.. I had almost no issues....untill the last leg of the trip.
First, trans seems to have lost 2nd gear and lockup. Passing gearis an overev into low.It will also not go into park, and of course won't start in park. It will start in neutral.

I haven't pulled the pan yet, but I will tomorrow. The linkage thing has got me baffled.

Any ideas...(other than the trans is FUBAR'D)???

Thanks

well most trucks now have a trans temp light that will come on. if your did not then it still might be ok. seems like the solinoid might have gotten overheated but thats about it.

True...the tranny temp light didn't come on, although my guage indicated that I'd hit 220 degrees coming up out of Phoenix twice, and once out of Albuquerque.
Thanks for the idea...

Any other ideas on the not going into park?

As an aside, there was a thread on whether a Ram with my same power train could safely pull 6000 lbs...my answer is through the Texas panhandle, yes...through mountainous or hilly terrain....NO!

Well....some of you carnage junkies will enjoy this! Dropped the pan and valve body. The fluid had a fair amount of small metal shavings in it. Nothing big, but not what I'm used to seeing.
A piece of steel fell out as the valve body dropped into my hands. Turns out it's the shift shoe for the kickdown band, which is lying limp on top of the front drum. No doubt it was jammed in the shift linkage which was the park issue.

as a buddy of mine says... this is not good.
sorry to hear about it. you thinking of repair only, or full blown heavy duty rebuild ?

Well...I'm gonna try slipping a band into place... which should get 2nd gear working, and see if I have TC lockup. If it doesn't lock upwe know it will be a short time before the TC goes "poof".
It sucks being in a new town because you have to go by ear on where to take your truck.
