when i first bought my truck the backup lights didn't work, but it was just a blown fuse.

visually check your wiring around the back of the truck and make sure nothing is broken or torn off. if ok, remove the bulb and check for presence of 12 volt while in reverse. if present, then you've got some kind of socket or bulb problem, might try spraying out with wd40. if no 12 volt, you'll have to trace your wiring back to where it comes from. should be a reverse light switch somewhere in/around the shifter/transmission linkage, which is likely broken.

the reverse/neutral switch are one and the same, 3-wire connector near the shifter linkage which can be removed with a wrench from the outside, mounted in the transmission.
