Default Tune up?

Just bought my truck with 97k miles.A mechanic told me that it has the original cap, plugs, and wires on it and they need to be replaced. Should I replace them now or wait till there is a problem? Also, what other prevent. maint. should I do?

I just had a tune up at 80K, new plugs, wires, cleaned things up, fluids. The thing is running 200% better, plus im getting about 20 more miles out of a tank of gas. Other things to do would be have the fluids changed (tranny, things like that)

cap and plugs: definitely. Wires: probably how do the wires look? I saw a DIY on rerouting the wires, and thought why do we need to reroute? is there something wrong witht eh current routing? do the wires age faster and breakdown from heat? So maybe wires also.

i don't know why these trucks are so sensitive to plug wire routing, but they are...i commonly see cars with all the wires zip-tied together into a big bundle and they run fine, these trucks if the wires run sidebyside for an inch they misfire. don't know why, but it does matter! only takes a few minutes to route them and mine ran a lot better afterwards.
