With the chain that loose, it ran great. Plenty of power, smooth etc..Thats part of the reason I eliminated a lifter. Stuck lifter would cause a miss/rough idle.

pick up a stethoscope (Harbor freight) and try your best to narrow down where the tick/knock is coming from.

Depending on if you have access to the gasket area you can spray carb and choke cleaner or other flammable fluids, or course dangerous. No wait thats to test for a vacuum leak, which sucks in, not push out like a exhaust leak. to finish the thought tho w vacuum leaks, the engine should rev up some if there is a leak where you spray.

Exhaust leak no idea other than if you can see a lack of gasket in A part of the sandwiched pieces of metal. Or can feel hot air coming through it or throw some powder in the area suspected and look for an area of the cloud that obviously being pushed by a leak. Also be warned according to ATF 70% of powders are flammable, even confectioner sugar and flower. But a little flower isnt flammable by a lighter, just checked but exhaust is around 1400 and lighter only 1200 and everything has specific flash point ranges so idk. Honestly not that hard to swap gasket. Do what was suggested to break them free easily. Keep your hand in a safe location so if they do break u dont bust your hand!
