Quick O/D question
Recently purchased a 1994 Dodge Ram SLT w/ one original owner.
I have a quick question though. When people talk about 4speed OD transmissions there is also technically a "5th" gear that is a lock out gear right? When going down the highwaymy truck shifts awesome into a"5th" gear. At 70mph I'm only at around 1700-1800 rpms and the OD button being pushed takes out of "5th" and shifts into 4th (at least I think). I am not very knowledgable with auto transmissions and am having a hard time finding a definate answer. No history is really known about the truck other then I have the original title to register
Thanks!

RE: Quick O/D question
Ah that makes sense. Been spending a good hour looking for exactly what you just posted up.
Also another quick question. I've noticed 3 to 5inch blocks under the rear axles. Would this be an aftermarket mod or a factory option? I have sent an email to dodge with my vin number.

RE: Quick O/D question
Well the main reason I ask is because I looked under the truck and right above the rear axle there is a block with mounting bolts holding it down. They mount directly below the leaf springs. I looked at a very similar SLT Ram in the parking lot at work today and it doesn't have the blocks.Thetruck sits level but can't see how the front would be raised. It definatly sits higher then almost all the trucks I passed driving it back. Boy do I love it though.

My 95 Dodge has a different tranny than my 01. The 95 shifts 1st, 2nd, 3rd, OD, TC lockup. The 01 shifts 1st, 2nd, 3rd, TC lockup, OD, TC lockup. I would bet your 94 shifts like my 95.
TC lockup refers to the torque converter changing from hydraulically connecting the engine to the tranny to mechanically connecting them. When you push on the gas and the engine rpm goes up 300-400 rpm immediately the TC is unlocked. When the TC is locked and u push on the gas it is like driving a manual trans truck, the rpms increase with the truck's speed.

The shift pattern is as followed.
1st, 2nd, 3rd, lock-up, then o/d. If you turn the o/d off it will stop at lock-up.
I leave my truck w/ the o/d on unless towing. if your towing turn the o/d off.

I can't speak for the RE models.
Good luck with all our rides.

here's a pic of the stock rear block on an 01. its about 3" tall.
i don't think the 'sport' model is taller. i think its the 'off road edition' that is 2 inches taller.
note the timbren spring. awesome as a helper spring.
