Default How do I Kill the Crickets

Hi guys,

I did a search yesterday about the noise I have in my truck. I finally found someone who described the sound perfectly.....Crickets. However, the posts stop before the solution so I don't know if anyone figured out how to kill them.
My noise is heard only at low speeds when threre is a rough spot in the road on the driver's side only. I can't for the lifeof me tell where thenoise is coming from. I thought it was coming from the driver's side suspension components, but it might be under thehood on the driver's side. At idle, no noise.OnceI get to about25-30 MPHI don't hear it anymore. It doesn't matter whether turning left or right. Silly truck!

Thank you for any help.Jason

Try oiling the Transmission gear selector linkage. My truck did the same thing. I ended up with, basically,a entirely new steering system before I found that damnnoise in the linkage where it connects to the tranny.

I have a similar problem [:@]and it is really irritating[:@]. (All crickets must die, especially the onesnear my bedroom window[:@]) It know it is coming from the trans linkage. There is a small piece that bolts to the tranny and another piece that bolts to the floor. Both make a noise when the body flexes in relation to the tranny/engine. I can't comprehend why they are noisey but they are.
I believe this applies: http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2000/21-12-00.htm

My noise was coming from the #3 area illustrated in that tsb. I found it by chance. I had replaced, the bearings in the steering column, intermediate shaft, steering box, pump, shocks, lots of front end bushings..... trying to eliminate that noise. I decidedit was getting to the point where I hadto decide to live with it or buy a new truck since this was essentially what I was doing... one piece at a time. Then I was up under there one day doing something completely different. I bumped into the linkage and it made the 'cricket' noise. I sprayed all the linkage withPB Blaster, and it has been gone ever since.

Thanks for all the help guys...I'll try to lube it up first, and see if that makes any difference. If it does, I'll perform that whole TSB. As a matter of fact, now that I think of it my PRND21 cable is in need of adjustment.Maybe these items are related. I wish I had my truck here now so I could go out and take a look, but that last time I was under there all of those linkage parts did look pretty corroded. Well, you've all given me something to do tonight....I'll let you all know the results.

Thanks again Jason

I also had the exact same problem. I think when I installed my new, longer control arms with poly bushings it went away. (lubbed first of course!) Iam pretty sure itwas because of the control arm bushings. I also tightened up my body lift bolts. Might have been that too. Mines a 5 speed, so I know its not the shifter linkage.

Glad you found and fixed your problem though!
