CPS and Powerless
Hello all,
I recently built up a 5.9 gasser in a 96 Ram 1/2 ton 4x4 automatic for a friend of mine. He is having issues with a check engine light and noticable lack of power. The codes were pulled and showed a faulty CPS (crank position sensor). He threw in a new one and said, "It had tons of power for about 5 minutes, now it's back to gutless." The check engine light is on again and I have a lurking suspicion that the CPS is not the main problem. The truck should dyno around 400hp at the crank, and it feels like an old 2.8l chevy.[:'(] Any suggestions?
Thanks Much
Sean

Mopower,
By bad coil, I assume you mean ignition coil. The CPS works off induction, and therefore has its own coil. Any ideas as to why the coil would throw a CPS fault? I will look into the coil tomorrow.
Thanks,
Sean

Yes, I meant ignition coil. It never really came clear why the bad coil was causing the code, but it gave the guy fits. He was running the infamous Accel stock type replacement coil. He replaced lots of stuff before he figured it out.
