96 transmission issue
My 96 1500 with 318 does not want to shift into 3rd gear unless I back off the throttle for a couple of seconds. I have changed the filter and put in a quart of Lucas additive, but it has not helped after several hundred miles. I have no idea what transmission it is.
The solinoid pack is going bad. I had the same problem with my truck. You can drive it like that for a long time. I drove mine like that for three years. It's annoying but I learned to live with it. I changed it when the solinoid went between 1st and 2nd. You should replace both at the same time if you do it. I had a local trannsmision shop do mine. He replaced both solinoids tightened the bands and put in synthetic fluid for $375.00. you can change them in the truck but the valve body has to come out. for me motors are easy but those little springs and check ***** in a tranny scare me so I thought the price was right.
the valve body has to come out, but not disassembled....governor solenoid and pressure sensor are i believe what you probably had replaced, there are 2 other solenoids, but they are for overdrive and tc lockup only. there's also a filter screen i believe. not all that hard to change, just make sure you get the parking rod back in properly, follow the FSM and you'll be fine. But I havne't had that problem myself, so I don't know if that would cure your problem or not. you have a 46RE trans, by the way.
Thanks toall of you. I work part-time at AutoZone after retiring last year from a 32+ year production job.... don't pay much but gets me a good discount on parts!!! One of the guys there also said it might be a solenoid. He suggested I take it to a garage that can run a scan and maybe narrow it down. I can probably do the work myself if it is just removing and replacing parts. Next time I work I will check on prices.

I had a similar issue with my '96 afterI had removed, cleaned , & inatalled the throttle body. It urns out thatI had not seated the clip properly that attaches the throttle valve cable to the throttle body linkage properly. It appears, after reading a Haynes repair manual, this is an easy but critical check & adjustment( 1/32").
Good Luck!

The front drum on your trans has two lip seals and the lager seal is leaking fluid pressure until you let off the gas, If you stay into the and the trans reachs 45 to 50 mph then you need a seal kit.
Just remembered that in the 70s I had a 67 Belvedere with 318 and probably 904 trans. The tranny went out and Ifound a used one for $50 (the good old days) but after installing ithad this same problem....did not want to shift up. Turned out to be the passing gear linkage from carb to trans was not adjusted right. This might besimilar to what you are talking about.

do you mean the front pump seal? I have not checked for leaks, did not think about that being a problem.....gravel driveway, wouldn't see anything on the ground. That is the speed range where I have to back off to let it shift. Usually it slips right in but a couple of times it slammed in with a hard thud.
