Sorry zman. I promise, it's not that I am lazy, it's that I have no idea what I am looking at.

I don't work on these things. I wish I knew half of what I see some of you guys talking about.

I've had that code P0720 for probably since I got it in March of 08. I noticed the code within the last year or so and never thought anything of it. Always when I started my truck up on the very first shift it wouldn't shift out of first gear until I got over 2000 RPMs. After the first shift of driving it would work fine, but I could drive for 3 hours at a time no problems, then shut it off and start right back up but it would still need to go over 2000 RPMs the first time to get it to shift to 2nd. After that shifted fine.

Anyways within the past couple months it happened a couple times were it wouldn't even shift out of first gear. The first couple times I just pulled over and unplugged the battery for a little bit and then it worked fine. But finally that stopped working and it wouldn't shift out of first gear and I replaced that sensor, which is on the driver side, and now not only does it shift fine but it doesn't have to go over 2000 RPMs on the first shift. Anyways thats my experience with P0720.

Thanks everyone. I am going to AutoZone tomorrow and getting the part. Hopefully I can change it myself tomorrow afternoon without much of an issue.

So, a little transmission fluid might come out? I just plug up the place where the old part comes out and quickly plug in the new part? That's it, right? No need to buy more trans. fluid?

dude if you still cant figure out where the sensor is, then take it to a mechanic and get it done before you can go faster then 10 miles an hour. and believe it or not, its cheeper at the dealer

that's correct.

carefully remove the electrical connector. don't break it. you'll have to sort of pinch and wiggle and it might require a small screwdriver to ease the catch over the clip. unscrew the sensor. you can use an adjustable wrench. screw in the new one. snug it up only. note - the whole thing is plastic, so it doesn't hold the truck together. plug in the connector. you're done.

Well, it's done, I hope.

Replacing was easy like everyone said. The code didn't automatically clear though. I thought I had read searching last night that it would clear itself after you go above 15mph. I went up to Autozone and borrowed their code reader and cleared it right away. So, hopefully it won't be back.

BTW, i know you can disconnect the battery to clear it but then it messes up all the settings in my head unit.
