Default output speed sensor question??

Hey gang,

Getting a P0720 but my speedo works fine. I would like to buy an Output Speed Sensor but the only description is 518/618 and 46RE Speed sensor. The part looks identical to the one I need but will it work for my 2000 RAM.

TIA.

Default RE: output speed sensor question??

Should work
Your trans should be a 46RE if you have a V8
Output speed sensoris only used for transmission shifting. Speedo signal is taken off the ABS sensor.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but this is similar to my current issue. Truck is 99 Ram Auto w/360. Showing code "P0720 Output Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction".

Also my speedometer was fine (only drove it about 6 or 7 miles). No other issues that I noticed.

replace speed sensor towards the rear of the transmission (2wd) or t-case (4wd). its not expensive, about $16 at autozone. place a rag or pan under it and be quick on the exchange. a little bit of fluid will run out.

thanks for the info.
It is 2wd. Sorry to be troublesome but do you know of a diagram of some sort so I can be certain of where to look.

Also, the guy at advance first said it was ~$17 then said it was ~$34. He was helpful but I would love a part # if you know a way to look it up.

thank you zman. That's the part the guy originally pulled up and then said it was for manual transmissions (I think). So then he pulled up another one that was ~$35 and said it was the one I needed for Auto transmissions.

I'm trying to find some pics now to see exactly where it is.

The 35 dollar one goes on top of the rear axle. Why don't you go to the Advance auto site and look it up yourself and you see all that info.
