Default 2WD-vs-4WD Towing

I'm looking to buy a used Ram 2500, 5.9L I6 to tow a 9600 lb. boat. Can't decide between 4WD and 2WD (MPG). Is the 5.9L, properly geared , able pull that weight up a ramp in 2WD? Any input would be helpful.

I have a 98 ram 1500 2wd with a 5.9 and have not had any problem towing my trailer which is 8000 lb
so I can't see you having any problems with your boat.
