iv driven all 4 types of gen 3s; 5.2's, 5.9's, 8.0's, and 5.9 diesels. By far I like the 5.9 diesel for a daily driver, but if you want a few extra ponies cheep, go with the 5.9 gas. Besides, the gas>diesel swap would be a PITA, especially if its not a 2500.
