Default Transmission: starts in 2ndgear

I have a 2001 1500 reg cab 5.9L 360cu.automatic trans. I've noticed that when coming to stop it feels like it slips. Then when starting again from complete stop it feels like it's in 2nd gear, slow to gain speed. If I shift manually with the column shifter it starts from 1st and will shift normally. Trans was serviced by Dodge about 1,000 miles ago. Does it just need a band adjusting or is this something else?

From what i hear its pretty common. It was like a pressure sensor or shift sensor or something in my buddys truck.

Could also be a bad oneway clutch (sprag). It holds in drive range. Low/Reverse band will hold in low range and make it accel normally.
