Default Tranny Problem tell me what you think

I got a 1999 Ram 1500 Sport and i think its time to get the tranny rebuilt. I was going to my friends house and the transmission started slipping real bad. It got to where i couldn't get it to go faster then 30mph. Every time i hit the gas it would rev real high but not go any where. So i make it to my friends house and he told me that he would follow me home. I leave his house and by this time it has a faint grinding sound. I stop at a red light and thats where i had the big problem. Light changes to green, i hit the gas the truck rev's like its in neutral. I drop it in to 2 hit the gas the same thing happened as it did in 1 also. By this time there is a line of cars behind me so i put it back in D and slam on the gas. The truck lurches forward long enough to get me off the road. I call my dad and he comes to look at the truck. This is the part that really ticked me off. He drives it home with no problem except it slipped a couple of times. Now he said that it slipped bad enough to where he wont let me drive it.

My question is what do you think could be making it go in and out like that?
oh yea and the dealership wont be able to look at it for a week.

parents wont take it anywhere else. Fluid is pink and the level is good. I dont think its the filter because for about 4 months now anytime i drive up a steep hill i would barely hit the gas and the rpm's would go from 2500 up to 4500 and the truck would not speed up.
