2000 Ext cab - speakers - how big put in ?
Wondering what the biggest speakers you've installed in the factory locations in an extended cab ? In the front doors and rear cab - regular ext cab, not a quad cab. I know I can put 6x9's in the doors as I did that a few years back in a 99 - how big can go in the rear ? Specs call for 6 1/4. Thanks.
I dont know for sure about the club cab, but my regular cab is 5- 1/4 in the back...I dont see why they would change speaker size just for that.
Put if you really wanted bigger ones, you could always punch them out to 6.5's or 6x9 size.

6x9 in front (watch your magnet depth and tweeter extension ! too much of either will not fit and/or make door panels bulge out too far) and 5 1/4 in rear. you can put in bigger in the rear if you do some cutting.

edit. added the warning on tweeter extension. good call by calvin i had forgotten about that. pioneers have about the most extension of all the brands.

i have a 96 ext cab(not club) and i just installed a set of pioneer 6x9s in the front doors. install was pretty easy. from what ive seen 5.25s fit in the back. one thing to keep in mind is how far the tweeter sticks out from the base of the speaker. the pionner's i have barly fit. they hit the door panel grill. doesnt bother the sound but i hate how it looks like its a bad install [:@]lol
but to answer your question, 5.25sare what the factoryfit in the back, most likely could fit atleast 6.5s without to much trouble.

Thats what I remember about the 6 x 9's in the doors - the door panel bulged out a little bit - but well worth the sound. I've taken the panels out of the back cab, won't take much to get 6 x 9's in there.
I've got a Punch amp that I'm going to install and some quality box speakers that I had built - I'm going to run them off the amp in the back, when I need to haul my kids or other people in the back, I'll just pull the two boxes out and still have good sound from the four 6x9's. Thanks all.

I've got a single cab and the specs called for 5 1/4's in the back, but I was able to make Pioneer 6 1/2's fit. Well Pioneer 6 1/2's are more like 6's. Just do your research and make sure you don't get stuck with speakers that don't fit. Or just buy them at Walmart and keep taking them back till you find the biggest size you can fit.
If you put to much speaker in the back dor it will go to waste there is no sound insulation there and it can make all that meatal rattle. you best bet is to put in the factory size in the doors and add a sub and amp under the rear seat. you would be alot happier with that they make boxes now that fit under out seats. I have a cd changer under my driver seat my amp under my passenger seat and a bass tube on the tunnel on the back. If people want to get in back i just move it. In some of our trucks there is a factory amp in the dash check to see if it is still hooked up. hope this halps
There's no amp in there trucks, there is a powered filter that warms the signal, I checked this morning while putting in my 6x9's.
After checking the filters stay, they do a good job.
