Need Opinions
I've got an '01 Off-road with a 3" body lift, 2" spacers, and 35" BFG M/T's. Gas prices are gettin to me and I've got 2 options. Either I buy a ****ty civic or I take the body lift and spacers off and put smaller tires on it. I was thinking of doing that and also gettin regular 1500 4x4 springs for the front and taking the blocks out of the back while going with 285/60/17's on the off-road rims. Give me your opinions on this and tell me if these things will actually give me something better than 10.5mpg. Thanks.

RE: Need Opinions
Taking that stuff off and returning your truck to stock again is not going to gain you a whole lot. A stock Ram gets a bout 12mpg in the city and 15-16 on the highway.
You could regear to 4.56's (a better match for your 35's), and install a emsoffroad.com free spin hub kit to gain a couple mpg, but the bottom line is if your looking for better milage, I'd sell the truck and buy something you can afford to drive.
Buying a second car no matter how cheap the purchase price is not a good move IMHO. You will have out of pocket expenses for the purchase price, plates and taxes, insurance etc.....Take that money and just buy gas with it afor your truck for another year.
The only way to actual save without putting out more money would be to sell your truck and buy something more economical with the procedes from the sale.

your truck looks good. as said above you'll never get better than 15-16 mpg no matter what. if you like it, i'd keep it and buy a cheap little car to drive to work. depending on your insurance cost, maybe get a real cheap one, like $2500 or less and just carry liability only. my son has a honda accord that gets 37 mpg. it will pay for itself in gas alone in no time. i'd stay away from motorcycles. too dangerous and rainy days really suck.

RE: Need Opinions
If you drive 400 miles a week:
400 miles / 10.5 mpg x $3.00 per gallon = $114 per week
Do mods for better mileage and gain 2 mpg:
400 miles / 12.5 mpg x $3.00 per gallon = $96 per week, saves $18 a week (or $72 a month)
Or buy a small car:
400 miles /25 mpg x $3.00 per gallon = $48 per week, saves $66 a week (or $264 a month)
Your truck looks good like it is, so this may put things in perspective.. You are paying for the fun and convenience of a do-all haul-most eye-catching truck, and is anything wrong with that? I say save your money elsewhere (eat at home more, buy less cokes or smokes) and enjoy your nice truck!
