2001 5.2 idle and cc problems
hey new to the forum, i was wanting to know if anyone else has had a problem with their cruise control letting go of the throttle when driving it almost feels like the converter is slipping but it only does it when cruising in cruise control so when the throttle is let go for a sec the converter unlocks then locks back up. another problem im having is when the truck is warming up i notice that the idle will jump for a while then fix itself and so one i dont believe it does it when its warm but im not sure. i thought i was a vac leak so i started testing hoses and came up empty handed except i can hear the pcv whistle so i bought a new grommet and valve from dodge but still does it im prolly gonna replace the hose soon. i also thought it could be the aic but not sure how to test it.
any input is appreciated

welcome.
if the cruise is staying engaged, but the truck is shifting up/down a lot and unlocking/relocking torque converter its most likely a bad throttle position sensor (TPS). if the cruise is disengaging completely it probably a bad brake light switch.
TPS is on drivers side of throttle body, easy to change, about $45 at any auto parts store. idle speed is controlled by idle air control (IAC), which is a plunger on the rear of the throttle body. there is interaction between the 2 and IAC will only operate when TPS is telling the computer you are not mashing the gas, so a bad TPS can mislead the computer to tell a perfectly good IAC to not operate.
if you've never cleaned the TB, then remove it from the truck, remove sensors, clean it very thoroughly with carb cleaner and toothbrush. while its off look down in plenum and look for oil puddles indicating leaking plenum. replace TPS, put it all back together, reset pcm, and try it. if idle problems continue, then replace IAC, $50-55, don't need to remove TB, don't forget o-ring, reset pcm again.
complete failure of cruise control is usually a vac leak in hose going to the cruise module, which lives under the battery.

thanks for the replies i think i might have figured it out i put a clamp on the hose goin to the pcv valve and the whistling pretty much stopped(i need to get a smaller clamp and possibly a new hose) went on the highway and drove for about 6 miles with cc on and had no problems even the trans shifted better but it still does it everynow and then but ill check it out when i get the new hose and clamps on i aint had time been workin alot.
thanks
