ive never heard of that for a bearing. thats how i check my ball joints.
a lot of times you can do a visual inspection of the ujoint in the axle. you can usually see the damage on the caps.
doesnt the 2 wd have bearings and the 4 wd have ujoints?
i dident even look and see it was 2wd there wont be u joints there since there isent a front drive axle and the barring is part of the hub assy (not the u-joints) the whole assy has to be chaged if its a bad barring

that wiggle checks both if its making a noise prob not a ball joint, also you can usally see the ball joint move if thats whats bad if its not moving then most likley barring

best way to check wheel bearing/hub assy. is to lift tire off ground.. and grab left/right side of tire.. or top/bottom side of tire.. pull OUT equally.. if you can move the tire in and out.. its shot.. you should not be able to move it at all.. if you can move it up and down like was stated in post earlier.. but not in and out.. chances are its not the bearing/hub and it is a balljoint.. check those out..

grabing left/right will also tell you if your tye rod ends are shot, if you have big tires your gonna have a hard time trying to pull it straight out and in if you have smaller ones than this may work thow, ive never tryed pulling it straight in and out, ill try that one next time i check it thow cuz im courieous
