my gears SUCK!!!
next question, I'm not one to pay anybody to do work on my truck(s), so about how much am I looking at to change front and rear end? I don't have the time to do this kind of work anymore.
Oh yeah, is it possibly cheaper to buy the gears you want then send them with the truck to be installed?

do u have the dana 44 in the front? (i think you do) anyways if so to go from 3.55 to 4.10 in the front ither you half to get a special "thick" ring or get a carrer made for 4.10 as well
well, I just got off the phone with a friend of a firend who does this kind of work everyday. Putting new gears front and rear with new carrier bearings up front in the D44 will cost around 1200, unless someone on here has a used set for front and rear that they would sale for 300 bucks. LOL, then I could get installed for around 500 LOL
If your willing, you might try to cut your exhaust pipe 6 inches in front of your muffler, and weld or clamp on a pipe and a straight through loudspeaker type muffler to your new cut pipe. Exit in front of passenger rear wheel, and that should free up a few horses for some more power! a little louder maybe, but definately worth the few bucks...
Also, if you haven't gotten a good tune up recently, try it. Be sure to index your plugs though. Just get 8-16 extra plugs and install the 8 that will allow you to make the ground electrode point to the fenders and the open end of the plug point towards the center of the engine. That really helped my truck a bit, just be sure not to get expensive plugs. Champions and Autolites work well enough, and while your at it, upgrade your coil to shoot greater then or equal to 50,000 volts and open the spark plug gap to .05 inches for a more complete combustion.
Man... I can go on and on about cheap power adders but nobody wants to read all that ish... If you do, reply to my post and I've got nothing but information.

With that kind of a load I can't believe you didn't get a 2500? The horse trailer alone is heavy. Then again I have a 16' enclosed trailer and a 1500 too. I don't tow it a lot, so didn't spend the bucks to upgrade to a 2500.
I'm assuming you have a camper/heavy duty towing package or some sort of helper springs in the rear...

Acutally I don't have a camper. My truck handles the trailer great! It just needs some extra gears for pullin. I'm thinking about going with the super chips programer to see if that helps me out. While I'm doing that, I'll save up some money to change the gears later on. I think the programmer will help a litte by changing the power band to the lower RPMs and giving me about 25 to 30 hp and tq. I think that will help me but I know not as well as the gears would, its just I don't have 1200 bucks lying around to spend.
