Electric Fan opinions
Hey all,
I've been strongly thinking about doing an electric fan conversion to my truck. I've read over some of the old posts by Shottand others and I am curious as to how you still like them (if you stilldo)and how they've cooled for you now that you've had somedifferent weather and conditions to use them in.
I found a Mark VIII fan at one of the local junkyards, but am curious as to some of the other set ups, because this thing looks like it's been through hell and we've had a ton of flooding down here (could get a new one for $169, but wanted opinions). I've seen the Winstar, Shott's setup, and some others. Anybody running a viper fanhere (saw one for about $150)? Any thoughts on what the safe range ofCFM is for a 5.2L that doesn't tow but can seean hour and a halfof rush hour gridlock?
Any input greatly appreciated!

I've recently pulled my clutch fan and replaced it with two elec. ones. One 12" pusher and one 16" puller; they work fantastic. I've got cold air almost instantly and the motor stays in the correct temp. range without any issues. Brand new fans with controller and I've got about 170.00 in the setup. I've already taken pics and was planning on doing a thread about the install tomorrow. I'll post a link when its up.

On each side. They both come on at the same time. I can force them on or just have the thermostat controller do the job. They turn off on their own with the iginition key to off. This way when I'm on the highway I can flick the switch and thus they aren't running just because the AC is on. They were suppose to be wired to come on when the AC was running but didn't like the idea. Its just up to the thermostat at that point. The motor stays plenty cool even in the peak of this Fl summer heat. We're not as hot as Arizona or some other places but it's been very hot lately and the trucks doing great. I haven't towed anything so don't know if that would cause enough heat to overwhelm my system or not.

Where'd you get that 12" pusherfrom? That's really low profile on the electric motor. That would be perfect for what I'mwanting to do. And what did you anchor itto the radiator with? Are those kit parts, or was it something you picked up at the parts store?

They both are Imperial fans from Advanced Autoparts. They both came with mounting hardware that goes through the radiator. Easy to mount and very secure; I was skeptical until it was all finished and was very impressed with the system. The fan doesn't move around at all. The 12" was only like 60.00, the controler was half the price of the fan. Two 12" ones would probably do the job easily as pullers but I wanted one up front for instant cold AC air.
heres my setup...fans out of a ford windstar minivan, its a dual fan setup. ive also attached an image of the e-thermostat that controls them, i have them set to come onapprox around 185. to answer your question, yes, they keep the truck cool as the belt driven fan would if not better, they do such a great job infact, that at a redlight, you can actually here them click off when the thermo cools back down. pretty shweet setup and only cost me about50 bucks. spent i think 15 on the fans, 20 on the thermo and about 10 on the wiring...also on a scale of 1 to 10 on ease of installation, id say it was about a 2 for a person with at least some mechanical knowledge

I also went with a dual fan setup and I noticed the difference immediately. More HP, Torque, and fuel economy. I went with the Flex-a-Lite dual fan setup with built in adjustable thermostat. The install wasn't that bad and it kicks on and off at about 185 as well. Whenever the AC is on they kick on and when traveling on the highway they run at about 60% however the hotter it gets they automatically will kick up as needed up to 100% and believe me they move alot of air. I bought mine from 4Wheelparts.com. I must say though I do like the idea of the gentleman's 12" pusher setup and since it's so low profile I might just get one and wire it into my existing one.
