Default have trouble starting?

i have a 2001 dodge ram 2500HD 4x4 with a 5.9L 360 cubic inch,
for along time it has had trouble starting it takes about 2 or 3 times for the moter to start, it MUST BE THE FUEL, possible vacuume? or pressure loss? i have never replaced the fuel filter but it only has 67,000 miles on it so it does sit around for a few weeks at a time. i have replaced the gas cap once, does it need it again?

So what do i need to fix the problem? thanks

I've heard of vacuum problems causing long starting times. Change the pcv valve (about 4 bucks) and the fuel filter (about 12 bucks). Even if it doesn't help, it needs to be done. Sorry, thats the maintenance knut in me. But no other problems once it starts?

Top rear of drivers side valve cover - has vacuum hose from it to intake manifold.

I'm pretty sure the fuel "filter" on the 01 is a screen inside the tank only replaceable with the sending unit.

Oops, I mis-spoke, filter is built into the fuel pressure regulator, and the screen in the tank. Sorry, been working on my sons FORD with inline filter.
