Yea, pump/filter/regulator/sending unit are all 1 piece.
If you really, really, really need that gauge to work, than get it fixed, but the pump unit will run at least $250, plus whatever a shop will charge you to remove/reinstall.
This is a common problem (inaccurate readings/fluctuations/etc), which my truck suffers from, I just ignore it. I know how many gallons my tank holds, the average miles I get per gallon, do the math and fill up at (appx.)1/4 tank. I choose to wait until I need to replace the pump to replace the pump .

thats just what i did. not on my ram but on my old chevy the sending unit went but i knew i get atleast 300miles a tank so i would always fill up around 275-290 miles. yea it was a pain in the *** but i drove it like that for a year before i sold it. lol new sending unit was $150 that does not include the pump. so yea. lol
