Default 5.2 liter/1500 shift points ???

Hey guys, for those of you with 5.2 liter 1500 Rams from the late 1990s (especially 1998) I have a question. The tach is capable of indicating well over 4k. While I'm rolling at approx. 40mph and do a complete foot stomp of the gas she'll downshift and the RPMs will get to about 3500 and shift; no matter what. Is this the programming that the truck is designed to do; shift before even getting near redline? I expected the truck to "push the limit" a bit more.

Now if this is the type of conservative programming that the ECM is set at then would a programmer such as a Superchips, etc. get rid of it and allow the revs to come up more?

Hope this isn't a question thats been worn out; I did a search but was unsucessful in finding a similar thread.

Thanks,

Lee

You might try adjusting your TV cable and see if that helps.
