damn thats cheep yah it should come with the studs in there and they are pre packed

im courieous what nut your friend was talking about thow there is 3 bolts on the back that hold the hub on (i cant see them being loose) whitch makes me think he means the axle nut but it cant come loose unless the axle moves out the axle nut is a casle nut with a cotter pin in it, and i busted a 1/2" breaker bar last time i took one off.

also look in the DIY sticky thread at the top i did a DIY write up on the prosess and the link to it is in there
sorry..but i heard the axle nut could be a left thred or right thread..do you know which way to turn to losen the nut?

if in doubt run your finger nail around the thread and see what way you half to go to loosen it, rember it may take a hell of a pull to break it loose so you may not be going the wrong way even if you think so

Whoa! That price isn't too bad. My buddy just took his truck to the dealer. $300 for each bearing. They said for both wheel bearings and the left u-joint...$1,000. Made me sick. Anyway to keep wheel bearings from going bad? I'm kinda scared now. My truck has more miles than his. However, I keep my front end tight with good ball joints. He let his get a little worn out. Also, he was the first person that I knew that had to replace wheel bearings. Are they common to replace?

P.S. I'm talking about the front wheel bearings. It sounds like this thread is about rear wheel bearings.

nope were talking about front..
its kinda common everyone will experince it at sometime or another mine were about 160(cdn) ea 1000 is rediculaus tell your buddy youll do it for a cupple cases of beer and get some free beer out of it

no real way to keep them from going bad, bigger tires, corenering fast will ware them out quicker

if you hear a squeek when turning then its time to change them asap
to check them lift up one wheel at a time and wiggle top to bottem if there is play look on the isnide at your ball joints to make sure its not them moving, if there solid and there is play its your wheel barrings and time to change them, while your at it if your front axle u-joints are getting old change them too (there cheep and youll be there anyways)

well my wheel baearings are located inside my brake disc rotor ( no hub assembly to worrry about) at autozone inner ans outer wheel bearings with races and extra cotter pins is about $35.I just take off my wheel, disconnect the brake caliper from rotor and sit it on a box, take off the grease cap covering the wheel bearings, take out the cotter pin , nut (if its too loose then water my have got in) comes off and shouldnt be too tight, now you should see the bearings, pull the rotor off carfeuly with the front of rotor facing you so your wheel bearings dont fall out and get dirty, check the inner(smaller) and outer ( larger perfect circle) wheel bearings for any fine scratches or abrasions andif they are toss them. Now your axle should be exposed, clean it off and clean your bearings ifyou can reuse them. If you want to use new races then you will have to punch out the grease seal with a chisel and a rubber mallet but take your time. To repack the bearings, buy some high temperature grease that comes in like a roasted peanuts container for like 5 bucks. Slap a hunk of that grease in your hands and roll your bearings in it liberally. Put everything back together, but before you get ready to put your wheels back on, spin your rotors to see if the noise is gone. 2 hr job. Good luck!
unfortnatually on the rams the wheel barring is part of the hub assy. its a non servasable part other wise it would be cheep to do
wow, interesting. I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 4X2 360 and I have no hub assembly and completely serviceable. This makes it harder to find rotors but its worth not having to buy a hub assembly.
