RE: HOLY COW!!
Grump,
Dana 60?
I have my old 4.10's out of my Dana 60 if you want them. Nothing wrong with them, I just went lower. I have D60's front and rear that had 4.10's but I now have 5.13's. I also have the rear tracklock if you want that too.
PM if your interested. I will send the gears for $20.00 + shipping and the tracklock for an additional $20.00.

RE: HOLY COW!!
ok, I found out that the gears are 3.55's in it, how do I tell the tooth count on the ring, I closed up the axle with a new cover...I should have counted them, but i didnt...any ideas guys and gals?
Info stuff:
Capacity: 6,200 lbs
type Full-floating
Ratios 3.54, 4.09
Ring gear diameter 9.75"
Ring gear face width N/A
pinion mounting overhung
pinion shaft diameter 1.63" inner
1.25" outer
Differential pinions two
axle shaft material Induction Hardened
diameter at bearing none
axle spline pitch 1.31"
Spring Centers 44.50"
Fluid capacity (2/4WD) 6.3/7.3 pints
wheel bearings Tapered Roller

RE: HOLY COW!!
What they were showing is a common set up trick. They take the old bearings and grind out the centers so that the bearings slip on the pinion without having to be pressed on. Then while they try to determine the pinion depth, they can add or subtract shims to get the right depth with out having to press the bearing on and off multiple times. Once they have the correct amount of shims, then they press the new bearing on the pinion with the shim pack. It's just a time saver trick.
The gear marking compound is used after pinion preload and backlash measurements have been adjusted to spec. The marking compound is used to get a visual on where the pinion and ring gear are meshing. There are charts showing acceptable patterns and what to do if your pattern is not acceptable based on what your seeing. Basically you want the pattern to show the gears are meshing in the middle of the teeth, but it gets much more complicated than that.
You will definetely want someone professional to set up your new gears regardless of whether you get mine or not.
Good luck to you andI hope you get it fixed soon.
