Our trucks could benefit from having the 545RFE transmission to! Supposedly it's possible to do but would probably cost a bit.

I’ve experienced all of these problems myself. First off the heating up while towing or not towing is due to the O/D turned on. Turn the O/D off and you’ll never heat up again. As for random misfire especially P0305 which is just a real general code. O/D off and no random misfire. I just installed a new “Mopar” cap & button and the ole girl rides like brand sinking new. Crisp and smooooooth! I love this ole Dodge. Untied that Bowtie and I’ll NEVER go back to that. 97 Ram 2500 5.9 pulls 8000 lbs camper up any hill with pure smooth performance. Just turn that O/D off.

Plus it struggled on hills. “UNTIL” I pushed the O/D button, disabling the over drive. No longer heats up and pulls up even the steepest longest hills around with attitude. Last hill was 7% or more for nearly 2 miles long and that temp gauge never climbed. I ate that hill up keeping my speed with traffic and not losing speed. All other hills I can easily speed up overtake and pass traffic. Who needs diesel? Not I. BTW I was Chevrolet my whole life until I got sick and tired of buying parts and working on them. Bought me a used dodge that hauls my camper with absolute confidence and comfort.
Your saying you don't us the Tow O/D off feature or you do use it and turn O/D OFF

If you tow turn the overdrive OFF, It's actually in the owners manual that nobody ever reads.
