Stumped the tech....
my truck goes through bouts of running good and then running terrible sometimes i can barely pull a hill with a little jon boat and trailer maybe 500lbs total. other times no prob. there are times i put my atv in the bed and i can barely keep the truck going 65 and if i pull my enclosed trailer 6x12 about 1300lbs empty forget about it its like towing 30k lbs and if i use my ac im lucky if my truck can drive itself on a level surface nevermind a hill so im really interested to hear what you find because no one can find my problem im soo fed up with the truck ive been looking to trade it in
my guess is your last motor burning all that oil clogged the cat, since it doesn't sound like they replaced it before. Secondly it could be that you have 33s with stock 3.55 gearing.....
Check that cat. Now that i know you had problems with the motor and getting blow by, i say its most likely the cat. if you get blow by, you are pushing oil past the rings (which you already knew) but you are also sending it into the exhaust system. And considering our cats are notorious for failing, i would almost bet money on it that its the cat. Plus, like a few other mentioned, you have 3.55's with 33's. 3.55's arnt the best lowend gears, i would say they are better for highway running.
If the cat is bad, follow up with either cleaning or replacing the O2 sensor. Otherwise, the bad O2 sensor will affect readings by the PCM, causing it to run more rich, polluting the cat, and you're back to square one.

Unfortunatly Socha, I don't have the truck, and probably wont for a while according to my tech, otherwise I'd go try it. According to him Chrysler tech support is EXTREMLY slow. However, I tend to hear things that are different sounding (and subsequently locate and fix the problem)and I've never heard rattling. On another note, has your truck always been sluggish, because mine has always beensince i've owned it. I'm just curious because I know a guy who has a stock 318 with 35's and a 3 inch lift and when he stomps on it he can smoke 'em for all their worth. Does you think the manufacture location makes a difference. My truck was made in St. Louis, his was made in Mexico...idk, this whole issue has gone on way too long and I just want my truck fixed....

Yes I would agree that 33's with 3.55 gears and a 318 is going to be sluggish. I have a 360, 3.55 gearswhich I ran 33's on and hated it due to performance loss, and that was without towing anything. Currently have 32's and steal can't roast the tires. I assume your buddy who can smoke the 35's has some serious gears in his truck, probably 4.56s or he is one lucky guy. Of course I may have a sluggish 360 myself.
