bad plenum?
ok ive read up and down how to determin if i have a bad plenim, maybe im dumb but i cant figure it out, how in the hell do you get a mirror in there? do i have to take the throttle body off? from what i can see without a mirror is crud. soon at you get past the butterflys the walls are coated in black, stuck my finger in there scraped some out, dosnt smell like anything but is thick like used grease. i can kinda see down the edges of the beer barrel are they suppose to be dry? cause if so mine are wet, cant really tell what collor it is but its moist. Does this mean bad plenum? or can someone explain how i can manuver a mirror in there lol cause i got a mirror in there and saw nothing .
check for a lot of vacuum at the PVC breather. (Opposite valve cover from PVC. remove pcv from valve cover and plug hole in valve cover.) If there is lots of vacuum at that hose the plenum gasket is blown. very common
Don't have a pic, Sorry.
on the left side of the engine is yourPCV valve. It goes into the top of the valve cover and connect to the intake on same side. On the opposite valve cover is the PCV breather hose. it connects that valve cover to the air cleaner. pull the PCV valve out of the valve cover and let is suck fresh air. unplug the breater hose from the air cleaner and plug it with your thumb. with the engine idling cover the hole in the valve cover (use either finger, thumb whatever)where the pcv originally was. wait about 30 seconds. if you feel vacuum at the breather hose the plenum gasket is blown. Normally you will get a slight pressure build up if everything is sealed properly. If the gasket is blown really bad you can sometime hear a loud sucking sound at the breather.
Good luck

Rabbler. Thanks for the quick and accurate diagnostic procedure. Mine is sucking just as hard as Tazman6789's. I have the Felpro gasket set, But I'm having problems getting the bolts. I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere. Thereare three national auto parts stores (Autozone, Checkers, and Napa) and adealershiphere. The only problem is the dealership parts guy couldn't tell me for sure that they had the right bolts. He said they were seventy cents apiece. That didn't sound right. Autozone had the Intake Plenem bolt set, special order, for eighty-six bucks. What do you guys think?
