Don't buy it for gas mileage. I have an ARE fiberglass tonneau that I love and will never own a truck without one. It locks, keeps stuff dry. I've heard they are well over $1,000 new all painted. Get it for what you need it for. If you want gas mileage, get some air filter thing or whatever. To be honest, I don't track my fuel mileage or anything, but I didn't notice any change or anything that cut my fuel use in half. They are pretty heavy and the weight vs. aerodynamics... Point is, I wouldn't really take the fuel saving into consideration. I doubt there is any, MAYBE someone will reply to my post and say 1-2. If you're looking for a fiberglass, go with ARE. They are all made to match the lines on the vehicle, not just a sheet of fiberglass. If you look at the two hood lines down the middle, they continue back on the tonneau to really make it look like it belongs on the vehicle.

i wasnt looking nito buying one for the gas mileage, i was just wondering if there would be any fuel efficency benefits. I am interested in a vinyl or leather soft cover just to protect whatever i keep in the back of my truck such as ski equipment or what not. i'm looknig for a vinyl soft cover because a hard cover is just out of my price range for right now. any suggestions for any softcover companies?

I have the Truxedo brand and love it. Instead of buying new check your local Craigslist site. I recently had the chance to purchase a second one for $25 and it was in good condition. My new one cost about $400.

Access makes one hell of a soft tonneau cover.

UnderCover Tonneau is what I have and love it.Here's one link:

I think you'd be more happy if you saved your money for a while for a good cover. Easy open/close, on/off, locks, all that good stuff. I do track my mileage and it maybe helped 1 mpg is all.

one of my friends has an extang tonneau. he says he likes it and theyre cheaper in price than a lot of other brands. any gripes about extang? i'd like to get the cover on before the winter so i can keep stuff like ski equipment back there. even if the cover dsoesnt lock not being able to see inside the bedf of the truck will keep the honest pple from trying to jack my planks.

I would go with a soft cover for the weight savings over a hard cover. Plus, you need two people to take thehardcovers off if you need to carry something big. Bed covers have been proven to increase mileage over 10%. That may not be much, but every bit counts.

Extang Classic-best soft tonneau going, easy on/off,mine has lasted 10 years-will replace this fall due to rip/leak.Only downside is that it's a bear to put back on when it's cold outside. It's about $250 from autoanything.com.

I have a tri fold (4 piece) advance covers foldable hard cover for sale. The seals are slightly worn, so they let small amounts of water in.. but very minimal. It is a great cover, and I love it... i just use my bed a lot for my snowmobile, etc, so I need one that I can roll up easily. Shoot me a pm and we can talk about price if interested.
Thanks

Kenny
