Whistles on Acceleration
OK,
So this Friday, the Plenum parts came from Hughes.
I got the pan and gaskets put in, reattached everything and went out for a drive. I have a very high pitched whistle onlight acceleration but not so much at WOT.I think the tubingfrom the PCV valve to the manifold might have cracked, becauseI almost had to put my foot aginst the intake and pulltoget it free (a little exaggerated, but not by much).
Anyone have any other suggestions? I'll fix what I think might be wrong, but after that I'm out of ideas.
Would the little rubber gaskets that line the back of theintake manifoldcause awhistle if not properly seated? They wouldn't stay still for me initially and I had to reset the intake 3 times before I felt they were right. I really don't want to tear that down again...
Replaced plenum gasket and added reinforced Hughes aluminum pan
Flushed radiator, and enginethrough and out water pump while I had the hoses off.
Replaced Alternator
Replaced Serpentine Belt --what does this sound like when it squeaks?
Oil change, cause I got a little dirt in the lifter valley (Echo leaf blower didn't get all the dirt off the mainfold before I removed it.)
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

RE: Whistles on Acceleration
Got a Mr. Gasket 1" breather on the pass side. Didn't have an issue before (last 3 months), and that's probably one of the pieces I actually didn't replace this weekend.
I did reuse the TB gasket, as I just put the Fastman on last weekend, maybe I should replace that gasket as well. Although, I don't recall it having any sponginess or elasticity, and the thing looked brand new.

Well, I'm not using the stock box anymore. I switched toa round air filter about 3 months ago. I used to run a K&N filter in the old box though and hadto run a bead of grease around the rubber seal on the filter. You might try that.
Still haven;t been able to track down that whistle. Might have to take it to the shop and hook it up to the smoke machine to find the leak.

a few thoughts...
1. temporarily disconnect most of your vacuum lines at the intake manifold and cap the manifold ports. what your doing is removing those lines from the opportunity to leak you've got brake booster (careful - little to no brakes w/o it). Pcv (those elbows and lines tend to get hard and break. on mine, i bought new valve cover grommets on both sides, pcv, and lines). on passenger side, there is a hose from breather, inside air cleaner to valve cover. another one or two on passenger side. careful, you may have no brakes and/or no shift and/or anything under the sun with these disconnected. the point is to see if you get rid of the sound, and if so, add them back one at a time to find the culprit.
2. connect a vacuum gauge, and see if you get anything abnormal.
3. if you suspect intake at front or rear, smear a thick coat of high temp rtv on that seam. black is less dorky looking than blue or orange.
4. replace TB gasket. only 2 bucks.
5. check air box or filter. the round rubber gasket between tb and stock air box is bad to leak.
6. check/replace o-ring on IAC.
7. run temporary with no air box or air filter. any change in sound.
this is all i can think of.
