front bearing?
ok...well i was going to change my front pinion seal today....well i took the fornt drive shaft off..and i noticed the flange is lose..you can shake it up and down..and side to side..my dads buddie siad its a bad bearing..now what bearing does he mean? and how hard will it be to change?..Its a Dana 44 incase anyone wants to know
just had to do mine last few weekends ago be4 i wrecked the truck. mine was 259$ but thats becus only one place had them on a sunday. i found em as cheap as 180$. it doesnt take to long but u will need a 1 11/17 socket to get the axel nut off, then a 12 point 9/16 or 14mm socket to the the wheel bearing/hub nuts off. now have a cheisle ready and start to hit it around the bolt holds(ull see a indent where to hit it) keep working it off. it took me bout 45 minz to replace cuz mine was rusted in there pretty bad. but we had to do it on my buddies truck twice(i took them out for him so he could do new axels, he put it back together without puttin the axels back in) and got it down to 15mins to replace
no.. i mean the pinion flange...that is lose..my dads buddy said there is a bearing inside the front differential that is bad..and is causing the pinion flange to be lose...lol..sorry if i made it sound like my wheel bearings..i already replaced them..lol
u might get away with just tighting up the nut but not sure otherwise the whole diff would need to be rebuilt/replaced(no sense in replacing one bearing if its tearing itself apart, the metal would kill the others and the new bearing)
well i just ripped the differential apart over the weekend to do the axle seals...if i new this was happening i would of fixed it when i had it apart..but i didnt notice any metal chips or anything unusual in the gear oil when i drained it

its the hub , cant just replace bearings

If the yoke is moving that badly, I'm guessing you have a wasted outer pinion bearing. The inner is a bigger bearing, but if the end of the pinion can move around, the inner bearing is probably gone too.
Want the bad news?
You will have to pull your wheel/tires, calipers, wheel bearings/hubs, axle shafts, diff cover, and carrier. Then pull off the yoke and and remove the pinion and bad bearings and then reinstall with a new crush sleeve.
Or take your truck to a good driveline shop and be preparred to spend about $300.00

He's talking about the yoke, not the wheel bearing/hub assembly.
