Weird Ticking Noise?
Hey guys! I haven't posted in a while and as usual I have a question. Lately I've noticed a fast ticking noise in the engine compartment. I have pretty much narrowed it down to the left value cover area and when I put my hand on the little hose that runs from the rear top of the cover to the intake I feel vibrations in harmony with the ticking. What is this and what does that little hose do anyway? It's not the only noise that my truck makes, but it makes me wonder. The area around the fan also makes a weird fluttering noise. Then my steering is starting to grind. That one really worries me. It's not power steering fluid because it's full. I think the pump might be going bad or I need new ball joints. I just hope it's not anything worse than that.
Yes sir takes about 60 seconds to replace. I change mine every oil change. Just pull the PCV hose off, pop it out , push the new one in an reconnect the hose. You will hear a rattling noise for awhile but it's the PCV. If you shke it prior to installing it you'll hear the same noise.
I am one of the younger users on this site and I am going to school to become an Auto Technician but I just wanted to say that when I try and help people on here and I end up being right it makes me feel soo good lol.
I know I need to grow up but really it does.

Twice now I've had a fast ticking noise near my valve covers (once on each side) and have found both times that my header gasket was leaking. At first it is just a little ticking, then it becomes irritating.
I just went to Autozone.com and used their vehicle guide to check to see how much a new PCV value was and they say that it is on the right hand side of the engine. The ticking that I'm hearing is coming from the LEFT hand side of the motor. I didn't realize that there were hoses running from both value covers until just a second ago. Again, I'm talking about the hose running from a rubber grommit on the left value cover to the area of the intake below the throttle body. Sorry if there has been any confusion.
