Need more power?
I love my dodge but it doesnt seem to have alot of pulling power. Its an 01 1500 5.9 auto. It should have plenty of power! I only pull a jetski and with just that weight it feels like im going up hills all the time. I have a k&n filter and straight pipes with echo tips. Even when i dont have a load it still seems a little under powered. You can just feel the truck alot...feels really heavy....I have no low end power or mid-range....I can stomp on it and it will haul. It does ping alot even with high grade fuel. I was maybe thinking the plenun plate is leaking. Its using some oil. about a quart evey 3,000 miles. It doesnt smoke one bit either.
sounds like mine did when my plenum was bad.. pull off air hat.. open throttle and look inside intake with flashlight.. if theres any standing oil.. its gone.. needs replaced.. if theres just a film.. looks dirty chances are its ok.. mine is dirty .. i need to find something to clean it out with.. but my plenum is ok ..
For my 5.2 to come back to life it took replacing the cat and the TPS. You also may have too much flow out your exhaust. Mine also likes more back pressure than a system without a muffler. I removed the fake dual exhaust and went single sided exit and she feels like new. My 94's 5.9 ran duals without a muffler and the bottom end suffered greatly. I didn't care at the time because the sound was kick a$$. I too need to check my plenum; thanks for the reminder dishdude!
i have heard that our trucks like back pressure. I have an ls1 camaro and it doesnt care a lick for back pressure....i did have a muffler on there for a day or two just to pass inspection. It did seem like it had more low end power...
My truck doesn't care a lick for backpressue either. I slammed a ls2 trailblazer in my full sized Dodge truck. The backpressure thing is a myth... just so long long as you can get the right tune on her/ or have the patience for the pcm to adapt.
Nobody will argue this. Here, the backpressure myth exists because somebody said it was so. Try it for yourself. I read on other forums about guys who put cams in thier 360 and they run like ****. Then you read about how they run it...let it go for a while... the pcm adapts..... and then they are the happiest ***** in the world. It is the same with any mod you do to our trucks- especially if you have the stock script in your box. You gotta give her atleast two tanks.
I run 1.75" long tube primaries into 3" collectors into a3" y into asingle 3" cat into a single in 2x2.5" out Flowmaster 40 and I have the torque to spin 32.8" tires and pin your head to the back of your seat.

thats not really open exhaust though!!!!dual exhaust entering into a single cat????? There is more back pressure there then you think. Anything that will catch the exhaust flow is making back pressure. Plus with long tubs you are making more power then most..so that doesnt help..
