Default Turn Signal Issue Fixed

Ok so for about a week now I have noticed my turn signal was acting funny. It would have the standard delay between blinks as the relay did its job. Then ever couple of blinks it would blink fast, just they way it would do if a bulb went out. I figured it was a wiring issue until both blinker just stopped working. Got back in the truck the next day and they would work just fine for about ten minutes then they would stop working again. The hazards worked just fine by the way. I used my hazards to signal lane changes as I had to drive to my parents for the weekend wit6h out signals. I woke up the next morning in hopes to fix my turn signals and low and behold they worked just fine. So after finding the unmarked relay in the dash fuse panel I headed down the road until my blinkers stopped working again. Once that happened I tapped on the relay and my blinkers came back to life. So now I am thinking I have a bad relay. I try to replace it but the parts store did not carry it so I figured I would get one when I return home. That’s when the real problem surfaced. I got in my truck and it would not start. I hate it when that happens but I quickly traced it to a bad ground connection. It seems that the ground cable was arching to the clamp and it slowly ate it away. I cleaned the clamp and cable to make sure I was getting good contact and it has worked fine with out the need to replace the relay.

Cool story, but FYI -- relays are fairly universal, like fuses. Next time you are at the boneyard, pick through some cars and trucks and grab a few extra. Cheap, and doubtful you'll even pay $1 for a handful.
