No More ignition miss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I finally have replaced basically the whole ignition on my 98 5.2. I got it from my grandfather with 180k miles and he had never replaced the spark plugs. Or the wires. Or anything but oil and air filters, it seems. Anyway, replaced the plugs and wires and said very bad things when I noticed the half-mile plu gap and the origional mopar wires. The miss went away. When it came back, I replaced the distributor cap and rotor button. That was NOT fun, in any way. The miss went away. It came back again, and I tried to ignore it. Today I finally gave in, whipped into the parts store I work at and swapped the coil out in the parking lot. The old one was whipped, even after 45 minutes of Pyroman-style driving the coil was just kinda warm, and the volt meter couldn't detect any restistance, despite specs calling for around 10 ohms. Anyway, just happy I think its fixed
A trick I use to get to the back of my engine is that I cut a piece of plywood to fit inside my engine compartment. I pull the air cleaner. throw chop towels over the throttle body, and then fit the plywood and position it so nothing can get broken. The I can clib up and lay belly down on the plywood while working on items at the back of the engine.
Hope this helps.
Hope this helps.
