A/C Blower Motor Problem
During the end of last week on my 96, I pulled up at my house with the a/c on high, and it just slowed all of a sudden. When I cut the fan off, it was almost like something was holding it back, because it immediately stopped spinning when it usually takes a second to stop. It would only come on at "high" and would turn like it was struggling. Still not full speed. I took the blower motor out and let it sit on the floorboard, and it still does the same thing. By the way, the back of the motor was getting super hot. I tried hitting the back of the motor with something hard because I thought something must be stuck in there to keep it from turning like it should. Well, it would speed up to where it was supposed to on "high" but would slow back down as soon as I stopped hitting it. Is this my blower motor that's bad? Or my resistor? Also, how do you get the wire that comes from the motor unplugged? I haven't been able to figure that out.
I would say motor. The resistor only lowers the voltage to the fan, which is how it controls the fan speed. If the resistor is bad, then the fan will not work atone or severalspecific fan speeds, it will not cause the motor to get hot. As far as unplugging it, I don't know for your 96. Check a Haynes or FSM.
