wow. i would have told them to take the bill and shove it.

Ya, I had some words with Marty the service manager with abad comb over. You think with 230,000 mile on the truck, they would be nice, so I came back to have them fix everything else that would/should be going bad on the truck. ut nope, just wanted a quick $800 form me and that's all they will get.
But that's the end of that, the thread is to help MotorBreath fix his leak and u-joint.

personally.. it looks alomst like a catch 22.. we know theres a click.. and we know the seal is gone... but were NOT SURE the click is the u-joint or not.. i think i would replace the wheel seal first.. see if that fixes it all... being as it needs to be done anyhow.. and if theres no fluid in it.. it would most def. cause some sort of noise.. whether it be a click.. bump.. grind .. or whatever..

It's very likely the u-joint is your noise. In your first pic if you look closely you can see the rusty powder around the cap of the u-joint. that's a sure sign the u-joint has gone dry and now the internals are just grinding away. If the leak just started after the wheel bearing was done it's possible your gear fluid leaked out while they were doing the bearing.
Sometimes the axle comes out with the bearing and the fluid level leaks out and pools in the tube. (the actual seal is by the diff) then reseals when the axle is put back in. try cleaning it up real good and see if it still leaks in a few days. the left seal is a PITA and a big job. 4-5 hours.

im gonna replace that u joint first, since i already have it and it will be less than the axle seal replacement. If it doesnt fix it, then im only out 50 or so bucks. The u joints on the driveshaft were changed out last week, they were rusted completely in the drive shaft and had to be cut out. Thats what this front one looks like, rusted as shiot. appreciate all yalls input

guys i didnt mean that the axel oil was leaking out from the u joint, but if the seals on the caps of the ujoint go bad the will leak out the grease they had when the get hot, i told him to put the gease in the joint if it had a grease fitting then run it, if the clicking stopped untill the joint got hot and there was new or fresh grease on the area that had the leak, then he knew that it was the u joint
