Default Sound system question

I just bought some new speakers for the beast and i wanna make it sound the best it can. I have a amp that i had in the old truck but no more subs. Will it make a difference to use the amp with the speakers? If so how do i wire it up to run from the amp? Sorry if this is noob, i know nothing about amps.

I installed Pioneer 120 watt 3 way 6x9's in the doors and hooked up an amp.
Run the power switch wire from your stereo to the amp and the main power and ground from the battery. Also the RCA cord from the back of the stereo to the amp and from the amp I ran the wires back up to the dash and hooked into the wire harness for the front speakers. then used the factorywireto the doors for the front speakers. I did have to splice the connections for the speakers as they were different then stock. I am very pleased with the way it sounds and am not running any subs either.

The amp is most likely way over powered for the speakers you have and will only cause distorition at higher volume. That of course assuming you are only puttting the one set of speakers on the amp. You can do this and turn down the gain on the amp,but than you will be no futher ahead than simply conecting to the head unit. hope this helps

I dont know if this is of much help or not but im running 2 Rockford Fosgate p3's off of a two channel Fosgate p6002 amp, 2200 watts max... Then i have 3 way Infinity refrence series 6x9's and 6 1/2's in the back running off of a 760 watt 4 channel pioneer premier amp... With a high prevolt out put pioneer deh-70mp premier head unit i think they are 4 volt pre-outs... The Cd player runs 1" silk dome tweeters and that **** is jammmmmmmmmming! But if i were you i would by a high's amplifier like a 4 channel pioneer or fosgate... Alpine makes really good highs but they cost more!

look at your amp and see how many channels it is. often a subwoofer amp is only 1 channel, which make it kind of useless for regular speakers. you will need at least a 2 channel amp, maybe a 4. i did an amp recently and because i'm cheap, bought a used ebay rockford 200.2 which is, i think, 50 watts rms x 2 at 4 ohms. i also bought a nice pair of 6x9 4 ways, hooked all that up, and disconnected my stock rear speakers.

its ok to have too much power and just turn the gain down. its a waste of money though if you bought the extra power and can't use it. however, its bad to not have enough power, and run the volume high as the distortion goes up.

check ebay - great deals on used amps and new speakers.
