rotor is slotted such that it fits on the shaft only one way. cap also has a slot so it can fit only one way. distributor is bolted down and will not move. timing will not change. what you have to be careful of is don't get the plug wires mixed up. if you do, note the #1 on the cap, and then work the firing order from there. i like to label my wires in an idiot proof manner out at the plugs. L1 - L4 (standing at the fan looking at plugs on my left. R1 - R4 for my right. not high tech, but works. there is a nice thread here with firing order pic that i'll look for.

here you go. in case of mix up.

Mark all wires at the plug ends according to layout. (1-3-5-7 on driver side, 2-4-6-8 on pass side, looking font to back), pull everything off. On a bench pull ONE wire off at a time, measure againts new one and replace (make sure to mark new wire with cylinder # at plug end), install rotor ( rotate and push down untill it falls into place), install cap on distributor ( #1 plug is located next to the screw on pass side, rotate and push down till it falls into place). Tighten and route all the wires to their respective plug. The cap is a bitch to work with because you can't see back there, you have to go by feel; and be carefull not to crack it, that will cause you problems. I have a copy of the firing order page from the manual in pdf format, if you need it let me know and I'll e-mail it to you. Hope this helps.

this is another stupid idea by dodge. it was not intended that you remove the heat shield tube, and if you don't you'll experience this -
1. you'll need a spark plug socket with the internal rubber plug to grip the plug in order to extract the plug. this is a pita.
2. the wells formed by the heat shield tubes will fill up with dirt and sand, so when you remove the plug, guess where all the dirt goes.... yep, right down in the cylinder.
3. when you put the new plugs in, you'll need the same rubber insert socket, in order to grip the plug and get it started in the threads. this is also a pita.
4. odds are good that when you finish tightening the plug and pull the socket off, guess where the rubber plug stays.. yep, wrapped around the plug body, down in the tube.
5. because its such a pain, you're twice as likely to stip the threads.
so.. if you leave them, blow them out good with air before removing, and have a good socket and a lot of patience.

or, grab ahold of them with a pair of pliers and yank em out of there. i removed mine, best thing i ever did.

So true [:@]
