I finished my gear swap last weekend. I went with 4.56's with 33x12.5x15 procomp M/T's and all I can say is WOW. The gears were by far the best mod I have done yet. about 70% of my driving is also highway. During the break in week I got 12mpg which is only .5 mpg less than what I usualy get. My father took it on a 150 mile round trip over the weekend and got 14.2 mpg mostly highway miles. When he got back I changed the rear diff fluid to get all the paint and crap out and the light shavings from breakin. Then over the last 3 days I have been running around back and forth to work which is 40 miles round trip. I stopped this morning and filled it up calculated my mileage and I was at 15.2mpg. This weekend and I going to run about 1000miles going to chatanooga camping this weekend pulling my little popup trail and that will be the true mpg test. Oh yeah and at 75mph I am setting right at 2500rpms.
when calcualing you mpg, did you take into effect that with the bigger tires and the lower gears, that the miles traveled would not be accurate according to the odometer?

So I think it's gears all the way at this point. Now I got some more questions:

4.10's or 4.56's? I'm gonna stick with the 31.6" tires for a while, so I think 4.10 would be better. RPMs for 4.10's at 75MPH = 2265, for 4.56's it's 2509.
I got confirmation that there should be no problem with the trutrac and either set. Is 2500RPM's too high (really bad gas mileage)?

The guy that put my trutrac in said he couldn't gaurantee that they wouldn't whine (he suggested Corporate gears to be sure),but the Yukons are supposedly shot peened tokeepthis fromhappening, right? Anybody had a whine problem before? Is it worth the extra $120.00 to be sure?

Also, he quoted me 350.00 worst case senerio to put the gears in. Is that about right? So I'm looking at 600.00 or so for this little change over,I'll buy the gears and fluids, they'll get everything else.

I have cheap "No-Name" gears from Performance Off Road Center and they don't make any whining noises at all. Set them up right and they won't.

Youll never notice as much of a gain as gears will give you with any other mod....except maybe a supercharger or nitrous.

Those wondering if I took into effect my mileage being off due to tires and gears. Yes I did when I did the gear install I had to change my speedometer gear because according to my speedometer I was doing 105mph keeping up with traffic on the interstate.

I think that rpm calculator was off though. I am running 4.56's with true 33's and I am sitting right at 2500rpms at 75mph, but with the mods I have that puts me right in my power band.

I'm sure that calculator doesn't take into account thingslike wind drag, friction coefficients, road elevation, etc., but it's good to get you an idea.
