What happened????????
Hi everyone, I'm new here and really like what I see at Dodge Forum. Great stuff! I've recently purchased my first Ram,( 99' 1500 5.2 4x4 sport with 50k)
Really like the truck, however I had a nerve racking experience today as I was driving on the highway. Was going 65-70 when I drove over an expansion joint on a bridge overpass and the front end of the truck started to hop almost uncontrollably. Thankfully, I was able to slow down in time to control the hop and keep myself in my lane. I was wondering....Is this a common occurrence with Ram front ends? And if there is a way to fix this, I sure could use some advice. Thanks for any suggestions...........-ram fivepointtwo

Welcome to the forum!
I hesistate to mention this because some guys freak and over-diagnose but,
It might be the Death Wobble. Was it ultra-violent, but got under control as you slowed down?
Use the search function and search Death Wobbleand limit your search to 2nd gen forum, then you'll get an idea. Don't freak out and over-diagnose, some have thought they've had it only to find out it's not quite that.

thought i had it, i was wrong after seeing a video clip. turns out i think my steering ball joint might be warn? causes the steering wheels to move back and forth, like poping feeling and hearing
I'm not sure if was the death wobble. It was more of a "hop", like when the rear end hops from spinning the tires....Checked all front end parts.( no play) Guess I'll have to get the front end lined up... thanks all for your replies...
The only thing that I know of that makes the front "hop" or anything is death wobble but we can't really tell with out seeing it. Get an alignment and see if that helps, if not we'll go from there. GOod luck
