Default Rear brake drums

97 ram 1500 2x2. Trying to remove the rear brake drums.I can not find a way to access the brake adjuster through the back cover.I've released the E-bake. I have beat the drums with arubber mallet sprayed it with WD40 and then went afterit with a 3# sledge. It still will not budge. The info I got is that the brake padspressing against the drums. Any ideas how to get to the brake adjuster. Fish

On the back of the drum/brake there should be a little reddish colored rubber insert, pull that out then you can get to the adjuster with a flat head , also is your ebrake on when you are trying to get the drum off? Always check that first.

**** the rubber mallet. Use a BFH and whack the drum a good one.

I checked on the back cover and can't find a plug. All I can find are two small indentionson the lower part of the cover.

About that size but not red.The inside of the slot is metal.I stuck a punch in the slot and hit it with a hammer. They didn't move. I checked some other sites and they said to knock them out with a punchand get a plug from the parts house to replace them. Sounds strange. Have you ever heard of needing to that on a dodge?

Yes I have, I have them on my truck but I believe the previous owner punched them out and replaced them with the red plugs after he adjusted the brakes. I would take a brass punch and a hammer and punch them out but not to hard, don't want to damage anything you need to.

The little plugs should be only a few dollars, I thought that all dodges had the red plugs.

That's weird. You should see two indents like that on the left and right but one of them should be punched out. My plug is black.

I beat the **** out of both of them with a punch and hammer. Nothing. I have the Haynes manual beside me it has nothing about punching out steel. I guess I'll have to take it to the brake shop. $$$$$
