Default Potential new owner w/ couple of ?'s

I'm going to go look at a 2000 Ram 1500 4X4 extended cab short bed tomorrow. I'm not very familiar with these trucks anymore since I haven't owned one since 1998. Can anyone point me to a way to find out the axle ratio on the truck. I know on the Ford's, it's on the decal on the door jamb. Does Dodge have a limited slip axle? Anything to watch out for on these trucks? It's only got 40,000 miles on it so it should still be in pretty good condition.

Thanks in advance!

I believe for 2000/2001 it was 3.55 axle ratio standard on the 1500 1/2 tons. Unless you havea off road package, which is 4.10 like I have with the optional tow package. I found that Dodge put theaxle ratioon a sticker inside inside the hood, so check there as that's where I found mine. You shouldn't haveany problems with a low mileage 40K, all depends though on how the previous owner treated it, so give it a good looking over and see if any maintenace records are available. Good luck!

ask them for maintaince records if any. ask if he did oil changes and when he says yes ask what oil and how many qt's(lets you know if hes bull****ting his answer or not atleast ). im always trust worthy of a high miles car/truck more so then a low miles. just cause if its made it this long then they HAD to keep it up. but 40k miles?... id check it out real good. my wife has a lexus suv 2002 with 46k miles which seems low-avg.(atleast it wasnt alot we thought) well a month later it starts smoking from the muffler and the 3rd month the engine died and lexus had to put a brand new short block in it!... good thing the bill was on lexus!! $10k engines arnt for my budget lol. but just be carefull and check everything out. good luck

Like the guy said...theres an optional equipment sheet on the glove box lid, and the axles should be tagged. You SHOULD have 3:55s, but it depends.

welcome to DF...

make sure you check out the plenum (peak down into the TB and look for oil pooling on the bottom, may be hard to see w/o a mirror to check the corners). How many miles on it?
