Default Trans cooler quick question

Ok whats the bypass on the trans cooler in front of radiator for and is it needed? I ask because i had to cut it out to put some splice lines in from a hole that formed on one of them.

The bypass is there in case the fluid gets too cold. The trans fluid can gel and won't flow if it gets to cold and can burn out the tranny. It's more critical in colder climates, if you get -30 winters and drive on the highway you want the bypass for sure. I've seen some real bad failures in Canada due to gelling. were talking internals burnt to a cinder throw the whole tranny in the garbage failures. Especially in the overdrive section.
