MPG suddenly lower?
I'm still pretty pissed that my truck suddenly is averaging a whole mile less than usual. Is it possible that since I've owned the truck (2 months) that the computer reassessed the new style of driving and made a new estimate on mpg? I know that I have somewhat of a led foot so maybe this is why? I also have 35" tires, so I don't imagine it's so good on gas wehn I'm flooring it with those huge *** tires. Anyways, is this a possibilty, or would it have recgonized the new driving style a lot easier? I mean for 2 1/2 solid months that I owned the truck, the computer told me that I averaged 12 mpg. Now it's exactly one mpg less at 11, wtf??? lol
MPG can be used to tell if an engine is still 'healthy'
but the only way I know to do this reliably
is to do steady 60 mph test runs on the EXACT SAME HIGHWAY
on days with about the same temperature and wind.
The other reason to do a steady 60 mph test run
is to surprise the typical Ram owner
with a 20+ MPG result
which many who are used to 11-15 MPG results
from city or mixed driving
...will swear is impossible until they do it themselves.

I think my sudden low drop of mpg could be very related to the fact that I don't do anymore highway driving these days, its all city driving, so its all fricken stop and go, stop and go, which can be very annoying. Then you have to add the fact I am a speed demond, so I am always hitting it to give it to the poptarts, and always stopping and going with these giant 35" mud tires, so I guess in reality, 11mpg isn't all that bad considering my brother gets 7mpg with his f-350 with smaller tires lol.
Is your speedometer acurate? With the 35 inch tires your truck might think it's getting 11mpg and it's actually getting a few mpg better because you're actually going further than the odometer says.

haha! well, it seems to be accurate. I don't know though if the guy who owned the truck prior to me ever had the computer recalibrated for the tires though. I bought the truck with the 35" tires already on it. Now if it had said 11mpg when I first bought it, I wouldn't have thought twice of it. But for 2 1/2 months that I've owned the truck, it alway gave me a 12mpg reading. Then one morning when I went to start the truck, it said 11.2mpg. So its the dramatic change overnight that has really got my attention. I don't know if it has just started to adjust to my custom of driving (city and speeding lol), or if there is something wrong with an engine component that might need tending to. Anyways, let me know what any of your thoughts are on this 1mpg less deal OVERNIGHT.
It's probably just from you rompin on the gas alot and it finally registered.
My old bosses Powerstroke King Ranch had one of those overhead thing and it never knew what was going on. It would skip between 12-14 mpg depending on how hard you drive it. Towing something it would go down as low as 8. But we would drive for 50 miles after the overhead console said we were empty. I wouldn't let it bothe you

Ok cool. I also think something that could affect it, is that it had a setting that show you what mpg you have as you drive. So when I first begin to accellerate, the truck shows it has as low as 3mpg, while other times it shows I have 41 mpg when i am rolling down a hill, so im sure those unsightly low numbers during accelleration really mess with my avg. but yeah, i wont worry about it anymore then.
Yeah unless the trucks acting funny I wouldn't worry about it. But I do understand your pleight, anytime I even think I hear something I assume worst case senario. If it continues to get worse and worse then I'd be concerned. So keep an eye on it. How's she run otherwise?
