what is the biggest tire i can go with on stock dodge rims.
what type of tires do you have and how significant is the wear? im getting the new tires in a week or so and need some ideas. should i stay with 265/75/18 or just go for it with the 285's? i dont want to get screwed on this. thanks much

I have a 4x4 so I can't tell you what will really work on yours but I was running and wheeling 305/70/16s on my stock wheels and stock suspension.
probably the reason why your tires were wearing badly in the center is becuase your were running too high air pressure. What size do you have now on your truck? if you have 265/75/16's now, you should be able to fit 285/75/16's. Also i'm pretty sure your rims are 16 x 7's with about 5.25 inches of backspacing. your bolt pattern is 5 x 5.5 or 5x139.7(metric). if you want them to stick out alittle, about an inch, go with about 4.5 inches of backspacing on new rims..that's about the common for most rims...
The 285's that I have arn't wearing out that fast you can just tell that the middle section about 1" in on each side is wearing faster then the outside. It's not beecause of tire pressure. It's because the tire is slightly wider then the rim wich pinches the treads out causeing it to bow a little. It's not bad enough that I wouldn't recommend 285s. You should defenitly put 285s on. They look a ton better then 265s. Although I don't know if you will rub or not. From what I remeber4x4s sit higher then 2x4s.

If you drop your tire pressure a bit you can probably smooth out your tire wear. Lower pressure will cause more tire contact with the road.
I have the same issue with my 305's my stock rims are actually too narrow
I have 285s and I run them about 30-35psi to flatten them out a little bit. So far they're wearing evenly, if notbit much on the outsides on the front tires.
i also have a 1500 2wd and i have 265/75/16 on stock rim and from what i was reading i think the largest we can go without any rubbing is 285/75. after that we need a aftermarket wheel.
im also going to put a bodylift on mine but i will also be adding later a 3" suspension lift. hoping to run 34" maybe even 35".
